Bringing real food to children and children to real food!
Based in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, Cook With Me Kids, a not for profit organisation, works with schools and groups throughout the country to help teach children (and adults!) the importance of real food and it's provenance.
From discovering how wheat is grown, to becoming a baker for the day, we offer packages to suit your requirements. Working with children aged 2 - 18, our days are packed full of fun and education, working within the National Curriculum guidelines.
Fancy a day out? Why not find out about our farm tours. We will tailor an exciting, educational trip to suit your needs, promising a day to remember.
We can then help bring the classroom to life with exciting cookery classes and activities!

School Smallholdings:

Picture
We have just established our first ever school smallholding!
Giving schools the chance to rear their own animals, we will oversee the complete process - from piglet to public!
We will help organise the set up, guide them through the animal husbandry and deal with the slaughter process. We'll then arrange a butchery demo, sausage making and ham/bacon curing.
We even help your pupils sell their free range wares to the public!

Funding is often available for these projects too!

Would you prefer to rear another type of animal? Goat and chicken smallholdings are also available.
Why not visit: schoolsmallholders.org.uk for more info or contact: emma@cookwithmekids.co.uk

*Please Note*
Animal welfare is our highest priority. Before a smallholding is established, rigorous checks will be undertaken to ensure you have the correct set up required. The point of the smallholding is to allow pupils to understand the processes involved in rearing animals/farming.

'Farming School of the Year' Award!

The Suffolk Agricultural Association in conjunction with Cook with me Kids has launched a brand new competition for schools in the county. Targeting Key Stage two pupils, aged 7-11, the thinking behind the new initiative called Suffolk Farming School of the Year 2013, is to take one aspect of farming life and encourage pupils to discover how it impacts on every aspect of their lives. This year the competition is based around Sheep.

The competition divides into three parts and will be judged at every round. First all schools must design and make a life-size sheep sculpture to a maximum of 80cms high. This can be made from any materials, but should be waterproof and free standing.

Farming members of the Association will judge the best five entries and these schools will be invited to Trinity Park on May 10 for a day of fun, interactive workshops designed to enhance their knowledge of sheep. During this time a points marking system will be in place and marks awarded for success in the various workshops.

Finally, two schools will be selected from the five to attend the Suffolk Show where they will go head to head in the Farminanglia area of the Show in a series of activities, one of them cooking with lamb, to be crowned with the title. The award will be presented during the annual Agricultural Awards ceremony at Trinity Park in October.

If you are interested and would like to receive a resource pack, please contact Hannah Woods on 01473 707118 or hannah.woods@suffolkshow.co.uk

Food For Life Partnership

Picture
Cook With Me Kids are proud to work alongside the 'Food For Life Partnership'. 'The Food for Life Partnership is a network of schools and communities across England committed to transforming food culture. We aim to reach out through schools to give communities access to seasonal, local and organic food, and to the skills they need to cook and grow fresh food. '
Every Cook With Me Kids lesson works within the FFLP scheme. We can help your school work towards accreditation as a Bronze award winner or help set you up towards the silver or gold award.
We can work with school governors, canteen staff and teachers, to help set your school up on Food For Life programme and will work with you every step of the way to ensure you achieve your goals!

Healthy Schools

Another toolkit we work with is the 'Healthy Schools' programme, which is a government based initiative.
'Schools play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of children and young people. The Healthy Schools toolkit is designed to help schools to ‘plan, do and review’ health and wellbeing improvements for their children and young people and to identify and select activities and interventions effectively. This approach will ensure schools put in place the most appropriate services and meet the needs of children and young people.'
Cook With Me Kids can help set this programme up in your school and provide ongoing advice and guidance.
